Elizabeth de Stadler

Elizabeth de Stadler is a consultant specialising in the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("the CPA") and consumer law generally. She graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 2005. Thereafter she completed her articles and practiced as an attorney in the Insurance and Legal Liability team at Webber Wentzel Attorneys in Johannesburg from 2006 to 2009. She left the employ of Webber Wentzel to complete her postgraduate studies in Consumer Law at the University of Cape Town where she is presently.

Elizabeth's dissertation is a comparative study of the CPA, the EU Directives on consumer protection and the UK Sale of Goods Act. She has been involved in conducting compliance exercises and training in respect of the CPA since the publication of the draft third draft of the CPA in 2007 and can boast several listed companies as her clients.

Her practice comprises of general regulatory compliance due diligences; training and workshops on regulatory compliance; opinion work on the Consumer Protection Act (the CPA), the National Credit Act, Banking Law, Gaming and Lotteries, Insurance, Medical Law, Marketing Law, Contract Law; and plain language drafting (terms and conditions). She conducts regular workshops and training sessions on the CPA and other consumer legislation for businesses and for Law@work, a unit situated within the Law Faculty at the University of Cape Town.

In addition writing her PhD dissertation (The consumer's right to quality goods and services: a comparative analysis of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008) she is the co-author of a consumer law textbook which is to be published by Juta Publishing and have been appointed as the editor of the soon to be published Consumer Law Review. She previously practiced in the Insurance and Legal Liability practice group at Webber Wentzel (Johannesburg).
