"We have talked long enough in this country about equal rights. We have talked for a hundred years or more. It is time to write the next chapter, and to write it in books of law."

- Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908-1973 - 36th President of the US)

What we do

Esselaar Attorneys is a boutique law firm situated in the centre of Cape Town. We service clients with problems related to commercial law, with particular emphasis on Financial Services law, Information Technology law (cyberlaw), Consumer Protection legislation and credit related services. On the compliance side we assist our client with audits in the area of Consumer Protection compliance, Credit Bureau compliance with National Credit Act requirements as well as compliance with the FAIS Act and the impending regulation of hedge funds in South Africa.

Esselaar Attorneys is ably assisted by several talented individuals around South Africa to be able to provide the above services even to larger listed corporations and can project manage these solutions for larger clients.

In addition we provide training to organisations - especially relevant due to the impending introduction of the Consumer Protection Act and the Companies Act - which is intended to be focussed on what the organisation needs to know, rather than everything that is contained within the legislation. We find this focussed approach assists to avoid "information overload" and results in a better quality of training and a better result for the organisation.

On a more individual basis we assist clients with commercial litigation in both the lower and higher courts and we can and do take up individual cases especially in the area of consumer protection.
